Are You My Mommy
Writer / Producer / Actor
Born in Seattle and raised in Portland Oregon, Paula Jean moved to Montreal, Quebec when she was barely out of her teens. After a brief stint in the fashion industry, she returned to school, getting her BFA in Theatre Performance from Concordia University.
As an actor in film, television, voice, theatre, commercials, and video games for nearly 25 years, she’s had the opportunity to play everything from no-nonsense detectives (Quantico, Rogue, Cyberbully, StealingParadise), cutthroat lawyers (No Surrender, The Sisterhood) , and icy psychiatrists (The Fischer Case), to loving-if-dysfunctional mothers (Being Human, The Phantom, Gleason), and nice church ladies (Naked Josh).
Her love of storytelling in all its many forms led her into screenwriting. In addition to co-writing a pilot for a historical drama series, she wrote, produced, and co-starred in the award-winning action-comedy short film, Are You My Mommy, which explores sexism, ageism, and body shaming in the entertainment industry. It premiered at the 2018 Dances With Films Festival in Hollywood, CA, and continued its festival run through to the end of 2019, picking up several awards along the way, including Best Comedy at the Artemis Women in Action Film Festival, and Best Actress in the Independent Shorts Awards.
With an eye on continuing her pursuits behind the camera, she recently wrote her first feature film script and is developing her second. She is passionate about women breaking through the ageism barrier in the entertainment industry. Paula Jean is a dual citizen of the U.S. and Canada and is currently based in Los Angeles, where she lives with her husband.
