Born and raised in Mumbai, India, Niara lived in Italy and North Carolina US before making Toronto her home.

Niara recently wrote and directed the short drama STIR which screened at the Toronto International Short Film Festival, Toronto Reel Asian Film Festival, the Cleveland International Film Festival as well as other festivals in the US, Italy, France and India.

Niara’s upcoming projects include directing the Mumbai, India-set feature drama, MALABAR COURT from her original screenplay.

Niara also directed the critically acclaimed short W.W. II drama AFTER, which was broadcast extensively on Canadian TV and an experimental music video VARANASI TRAIL, for NYC based, fusion rockers, “Alms for Shanti”. 

Niara’s early film adventures included technical experience as Sound Recordist and Videographer in documentary series for the Women’s Network Canada doing two seasons on THE CREATORS and DOUBLE TAKE.

Niara is a graduate of the Vancouver Film School, McGill University and The United World College of the Adriatic.

Niara is also proud to have previously been selected as a Reel World Film Festival’s top emerging filmmaker.
