Shevaun Cavanaugh Kastl discovered her love for performing by watching her parents—theater veterans—on the stage. Shevaun studied dance, voice and acting in the hopes of following in their footsteps. She began her career on the stage, starring in On the Town, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, and West Side Story. She also originated the role of Cinderella in the world premiere of Disney’s “Cinderella” and toured the world in musical revues. Shevaun was contracted with Sony Worldwide as lead singer of 5 Starr but upon moving to LA, Shevaun found her true passion—filmmaking. She has worked with the industry’s finest, as an actress, but has now discovered a passion for screen writing.
Her first script and short, Conversations With Lucifer was honored to be one of four selected films to premiere at Grauman’s Historic Egyptian Theatre Summer Program in 2010 and played on the festival circuit throughout 2010/2011. Shevaun has now completed five scripts and produced two short films.
The Mourning Hour earned Shevaun the Win for Best Screenplay at the Slugline Short Screenwriting Competition. She also garnered an Honorable Mention for Outstanding Writing at Skyfest. Her latest script, a Feature called Happily Never After, was a Finalist for the Maraviglia Screenwriting Competition just last year and is now in development. In 2016, Shevaun was approached by the Human Lab Corporation in Calcutta, India to join their Executive Team and help launch The Calcutta International Cult Film Festival. She acted as an Honorary Juror for the Festival, assisted with developing creative content for the Digital Magazine The Cult Critic and was one of the most prolific and highly respected Film Reviewers.
Shevaun also launched her Film and TV coaching practice GET REEL in 2020 after having managed the On-Camera Department at Broadway Bound – The Studio for Performance and Dance on the East Coast. She teaches Intensives, Privates and Master Classes to young and adults alike.
